Our Group CSR Activities

Our Group documented Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Our Quality Group Vision ensures that we are Service oriented.

Sovereign Group's VISION is service-oriented. Service oriented is one of the qualities of a good VISION.

In business there is always a contributor and a benefactor. The primary benefactor of a company’s vision should be someone else other than the contributor. This means that someone else in the community could benefit through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

 Concept Note

Introduction

Sovereign Group Limited is one of the leading Companies in Africa when it comes to Corporate Social Responsibility. Sovereign Group Limited through Sian Foundation has immensely contributed in changing the lives of Girl Child in Africa through our CSR activities.

As a Group, we measure our success by the lives of people we touch through employment, education, affordable housing, our CSR activities including, donating books to hundreds of schools across the country,  free medical camps and free vaccines cervical cancer prevention vaccine for the Girl Child, free sanitary towels, offering free basic needs to the elderly in different villages across our country with priorities given to women and the less fortunate, orphans, we have immensely contributed towards climate change initiatives including giving free trees and planting with concentration in water catchment areas.

Considering that Healthcare, education and environmental conservation constitute some of the major development challenges in Baringo County. Most of our County’s average poverty rate of 45% and lagging behind in development outcomes. As a country, we are still faced with key challenges including HIV/AIDS, Calazar, Jigger infestation, TB and Malaria. We o also encounter man made challenges including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in some communities which we do offer CSR as a Group. Whereas efforts have been put towards addressing some of these, there is a mismatch of efforts in other prevalent healthcare related problems with jigger infestation being one of them.

Several areas of our Counties are affected by the jigger menace and there has been little in terms of efforts in terms of addressing it. This has led to the victims suffering in silence with majority of them living in abject poverty, severe stigmatization, and spread of other diseases including HIV/AIDS, eventual disability and even death. We have strived over the years as a Group to change the lives of our people through our CSR activities.

Rationale

For example, the net effect of the jigger menace manifests itself in worsening living conditions, increased poverty, poor education standards and attainment and weakening of household economies. With little being done to address it, jigger infestation therefore presents not only a direct health challenge but also a major development challenge to the a percentage of our population.

Lack of sanitary towels has led to a huge number of the girl child school dropouts. It is because of this that Sovereign Group Limited through Sian Foundation in conjunction with other like-minded partners over the years have done what we have to do to change the narrative.

An example of one of our major CSR activity as a Group is the spearheading of an anti-jigger campaign targeting all affected areas of the country. The overall goal of the campaign is to completely eradicate jigger infestation in our country by the year 2025 and therefore contribute towards enhancing the health, education and development outcomes of Baringo County.

In appreciating the contributing factors attributed to the jigger infestation, the project had been designed to incorporate various aspects including household economic strengthening, access to safe drinking water, improvement of living conditions for the aged and the poor, improvement of education and literacy standards and enhancing girl child education through provision of proper sanitary pads. This is a departure from the initial focus on jigger treatment and cleanup alone which did not consider the aforementioned factors thus resulting in high rates of reinfection and continued prevalence of jiggers even after treatment.

Under the leadership of our Group Board Chairman and Directors, our Corporate Social Responsibility has touched millions of lives in Africa.
